I seem to have lost something… oh yeah time and motivation.

Blast Civilization 3.

I do this a few times a year. Get hooked on a game and play it like crazy. Especially a game that’s constantly changing, challenging, and makes you seriously think. Blast Civilization 3. I haven’t done anything usefull in about two weeks. The small amount of code I’ve written, coupled with the rather unclean state of my aparentment (haven’t done dishes in like two weeks…) will attest to that. Fortunately I have a forced break coming weds night. I’ll be flying home to Ohio for the weekend. I’ll take the laptop with me, stocked with source-code. We’ll see what I can find to work on while I’m flying around.

I have a new display for my computer. Sams Club had an insane deal on an LCD monitor that I’ve been watching for the last year. The Samsung 172n. Gorgeous black case, small bezel, extremely clear picture, and a constrast ratio that puts the other displays in it’s price range to shame. The only thing I don’t like about the display is the lack of a DVI connector, but after a few days of staring into this beauty without a hint of flicker (man LCD’s are so nice on your eyes) I’m completely over that. I consider this my birthday present to myself for this year.

I did do a bit of coding / design work on some BeOS code this past weekend — mainly just to try out the new monitor. I can’t believe that I have a -desk- now. There’s enough space for a dead-tree reference manual or a fullsized dinner plate on my desk now!

I totally agree; I didn’t think I’d be using my 15″ TFT (got it for cheap) very much as I had my 17″ CRT. Boy, was I wrong. It’s even worth the downgrade in max resolution. Of course, now I’m looking for a 20″ or 21″ TFT (so I can get 1600×1200), but they’re not yet in my price range, but I expect prices to fall so they’ll be in my range roughly around the time I’ll have that kind of money.

    But yeah, TFT rules. :)

I lost almost a year to Civ:CTP when that came out. :P

When I finally got Civilisation (original) in around 1996 I lost weeks and weeks to it. Its a terrible game, but its horribly addictive. This is why I haven’t bought Civ:CTP for BeOS, but have bought virtually every other piece of boxed software for BeOS.

I never was able to get into CTP. It seemed like a cheap-o knock-off that I couldn’t figure out how to play the one time I tried it. In short, I hated it. I opted instead to continue playing Civ 1 on my mac until one fatefull day I tried out Civ 3 at my brothers.

Oh yeah, I didn’t like Civ 2 either. There were just things about it I didn’t care for. In general the entire game seemed…. sloppy. I don’t know how else to put it. It was obvious that Meier wasn’t involved in the development of the others. His knack for detail clearly shows through in Civ 1 and III. At least, that’s how I look at it…
