Sleep, Sick, still cranked out some code.

I’m trying to keep from getting sick, but so far I’m not doing a good job of it. Perhaps I’m eating too much machine separated chicken. (This is where you’re supposed to laugh)

Anyhow, I haven’t slept well for the last week. I’ve been on a caffeine and code binge and it totally caught up with me. Saturday I didn’t sleep well, but I got a lot (in the way of taking care of some personal business) done. Sunday I woke up with a sore throat, the worst headache I’ve ever had, cold sweats and shakes. I was pretty miserable. Even getting a hot shower was a major chore.

I attribue the shakes, headache, and some of the cold sweats to caffeine withdrawl. I didn’t have -any- on Saturday, and had to take a few tylonol to even make it through the evening. I should have gone to the store and got some coffee or Mt. Dew then, but I didn’t. I figured I might not get any worse the next day.

After I managed to get out of the shower I sat in a quiet room and stared at the wall for about a half hour trying to decide if I needed to vomit or eat. I figured it was eat so I grabbed a bananna and went to the store for Mt. Dew. I bought a case, and on the way out got a 20oz. bottle from the vending machine. I drank half the bottle by the time I got home, and drank the other half lying in bed. About 20 minutes afterwards, the headache started to subside, the shakes were gone and the cold sweats with them. I still have the sore throat. Tomorrow we’ll see how I do.

I managed to sit down this afternoon and crank out some more code for the Transmission GUI. It was mostly some more backend stuff. There’s no real useable GUI yet, and you can’t actually make it do anything usefull yet, but we’ll get there. It’s getting there. Slowly but surely.

Remember that you’re only immortal for a limited time, Bryan! (pardon the Rush song quote)

I fear that amongst the more obvious and expected side-effects of pushing your body harder than it can tolerate without rest for a period of time you’ve detailed here, another even nastier one may pop up (again): kidney stones.

What you’re currently doing is too likely to push you into physical and mental burnout, which (obviously) is less than worthless. Go ride your bike and take a break!

ah, your post makes me forget the annoying cold I got recently… compared to this I should be really fine… hope you get better soon, in your own interest and nevermind coding for now.
Regarding Transmission - what happened to the BT-client you were working on some time ago? Is some part reused in Transmission or is it entirely independant?

    It’s totally independant.

Unfortunately, the TidalWave source was trashed (by accident) and the computer I was working on it with had it’s power supply finally give up the ghost. So all the source (including my very gorgeous class-driven bencoding library) is now just bits in the dust.

Luckily, about the time the power supply blew, I came across Transmission, and got in contact with Eric. The result was a mutual agreement to help out with the BeOS port for it.

Eric has done a great job supplying a working bittorrent engine. All it needs is a good interface — and that I’m pretty confident I can do!
