I may not have a life, but I’m darn close.

So I used to have a t-shirt in high school, that remarkably almost fits well again (yay!) that says, “I may not have a LIFE… but I’m darn close.”

It described my situation then so perfectly. It describes how I’d like to see my situation now fairly well too. Hard to believe I’ve been here six months now.

I continue to work on Haiku at least four nights a week, normally until at least 1 AM, with occasional runs until 3. I’ve backed off the coffee the last few days, and have managed to keep from becoming a coffee / caffeine addict again so far.

I’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me. Family coming in from out of town for Sunday afternoon, and a lunch / gathering of some type involved there. Nothing major, but it’ll take a little tidying up.

So I managed to make some progress on Haiku’s ACPI last night, and got some changes to the bus_manager and minor updates (that don’t add any real functionality yet) to the thermal driver. The good news is that I can now directly get acpi_object_types from the acpi namespace, which was something that I couldn’t do before I added the functions to the bus_manager…. so it’s getting there, slowly. :-)

    Hi Bryan,

nice to see that you are working on Haiku ACPI. Seems you are making good progress. But for quite some time you haven’t written anything on the Java port. Are you (or Andrew) still working on it ATM?

Thanks and Keep up the good work,
    Finn

I’ve been getting a lot of questions like this lately.

    Don’t worry. People wonder if I have a life…

    I forgot about that.

    So what’s the answer ? :-)

    Gotta have java.

  8. JonathanThompson Says:

Move to the Seattle area and you have all the Java you can slurp down at your beck and call, mikesum32 :) How do you think most Microsoft employees make it through the day? :PPPP (note that too much Java leads to poor results: fill in the blank as you please :P )

Why do you hate America ?

  10. JonathanThompson Says:

Does suggesting that overdosing on Java can lead to undesirable results mean I hate America, mikesum32?

    /me is puzzled…

  11. mikesum32 Says:

Yes, you and the criminal-liberal-media hate freedom !

  12. nemo3383 Says:

Statistics show that overdosing on Java means you hate America.

    (99% error)

I have a funny suspicion that if you eliminated caffeine from this region for 6 months, Windows Vista would be delayed at least that much longer than without that happening would delay it :) (I also wouldn’t want to be caught in a traffic snarl around here, which are all too frequent: fortunately, my “commute” consists of 1/8th of a mile walk that includes crossing one busy street, and taking an elevator to the 8th floor of a hi-rise, with 3 Starbucks in that distance on the street, with at least one other coffee shop [I don't drink coffee, so I don't pay much attention]…)

  14. nemo3383 Says:

Eliminating caffeine might delay Vista? Is that what is happening to IE7 which was supposed to be out last summer?

  15. JonathanThompson Says:

In Bellevue, WA (borders Redmond, and even has some Microsoft buildings still within: I have a Microsoft office across the street from my apartment downtown) in 31-32 square miles there are 16 Starbucks (at my last count) according to my count in the phonebook, and there are a lot more “other” coffee shops/vendors than that. I don’t expect Redmond is much different in practice, and think about it this way: have you ever heard of a Starbucks closing from lack of business? There are (last census)

I’m kind of surprised Microsoft doesn’t have it’s own restaurant type facilities on campus. Doesn’t EA have that kind of setup?

  17. nemo3383 Says:

I’m actually glad to see a Starbucks close. But then I’m a conservative and Starbucks donates to the Democratic Party.
