I needed a nap

today, but I didn’t get one.

I was up late last night after go-karting with a few guys from church at a really cool go-kart track here in Indianapolis. The karts go ~45mph on an indoor two-level track — fun, fun times. Unfortunately, it took us longer to run than I thought it would. This was unfortunate, because I had been putting off cleaning up the house all week, and had family coming over today for a small cook out. My brother, his wife, and their daughter were traveling through town, and some of the rest of the local family wanted to see them.

I was up until 2 AM cleaning things up. Ugh. It was a short night, I was up at 7 to play drums at church today.

Speaking of drums… I think I’ve finally caught up to where I was when I took a two year hiatus from playing back in the fall of 2000. My speed is back, control is good, but now I’m armed with over five more years of musical influence and ear refinement. I’m probably better than I was — which is good. I’d hate to be worse. But beyond the technical stuff, I’m starting to feel at ease behind a set again. Today I wasn’t fighting it, didn’t have to force it, and I think it all sounded really good. I ended up jamming for about an hour tonight after everyone left, and by the time I stopped I’d soaked through the two shirts I was wearing, and could hear my heartbeat with the ear plugs in. Yeah, I needed that workout.

Anyhow, I haven’t touched the ACPI stuff this weekend. I had a lot of other things going on. Tuesday night I’ll be back on it.

What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians?
