Gah! I hate windows!

Ever since I “upgraded” by video card a bit over a year ago to a GeForce FX5200, my system would randomly restart while running 3d applications. I’ve installed all the updates I could find, AGP drivers and patches for my motherboard, etc. The only thing I hadn’t done, was reinstall windows. I still run 2000, not XP, mainly because I refuse to pay for it, and I really don’t like running software that’s pirated. The real underlying reason behind it all, is that 2000 does everything I need it to. It still works just fine, still plays all the games I have, and still does a great job with my hardware. So why add the bloat of XP?

I spent three HOURS last night reinstalling windows. There were over 31 updates that had to be downloaded / installed, and that was AFTER ServicePack 3 and 4 were installed.

That’s a lot of time spent in WindowsUpdate.

Needless to say, after installing a few of my games, the system seems remarkably stable once again, and looks like I’ll be able to play all the fun games I’ve been without for so long. Not that I play many games, but there may be some LAN fun in my future once in a while.

I also took the opportunity to rebuild my partition table on the disk. So I’ve got a better allocation for Windows and Haiku now. I’m doing a lot of system shuffeling right now, and for good reasons…

I upgraded my Dell Axim X50 to Windows Mobile 5 from 2003SE. What a big mistake that is. Sure I got more functionality but its slower, slower to turn on, doesn’t work in Linux, and doesn’t work with Windows 98SE.

I know exactly how you feel. Viva Linux!!

ah, rather viva efficiency – viva Palm (got a used Tungsten C recently, it rocks!), viva BeOS, viva Haiku! :)
What a shame to waste a good developer’s time on Windows, but it cannot be avoided at times… I know,-)
