Servlets Suck. Portlets Suck. Web apps SUCK.

I am so sick of shoehorning “applications” into a presentation model designed for presenting information, not rich interaction with users that I cannot express it in printable language.

Then again, I’m not sure the words exist.

The current state of application development SUCKS.

We’re trying to solve problems that were better solved 10 years ago. This is retarded.

HTML / CSS / JavaScript / AJAX / Whatever other industry buzzword exists for this pile of techno feces is not the best solution for the problem. It’s not even a good solution. More problems arise from this supposed “solution” than exist in other domains of application design / deployment. The fact that this stack has been around for 10 years, and is just now approaching a level of usability that’s even barely passable should be all the evidence we (developers) should need to abandon outright the notion of “web apps”.

A dynamic web site for dissemination of content has it’s place.

But driving business, where people aren’t just looking for information, but trying to manage, create, organize, and run systems / contacts / etc — I am more and more convinced, and firmly believe that web browsers have no business there.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
