Drill Press Assembled!
I took a few hours this evening to take some time and carefully assemble, clean, and then throughly play with a Christmas present I hadn’t even opened before tonight.
My 13″ floor standing drill press!
This thing is awesome. 5/8″ chuck, 16 speed, beast of a drill press. It purrs when it runs. I grabbed a few of my good brad point bits (biggest one is 3/8″) set the speed to 1600rpm, and went nuts on some wood. There’s no wobble. It’s amazing. The depth gauge is also very clear to read, which is nice when you don’t want to go all the way through.
Thanks father-in-law for the awesome gift. This thing will get used — a lot! And as heavily constructed as it is, it should last longer than I do. The housing and bases are all machined cast iron. I had a good forty-five minutes of cleaning with mineral spirits to get all the mineral oil off the table and other parts that come in contact with the workpiece. Highly satisfying.
