Ledge it be, ledge it be, Ledge it be…
After what can only be described as way too long of having a bare stud and drywall between the kitchen and great room, a proverbial fire was lit under my buttocks, and the oak ledge is now complete.
OK, so really it was that Dad and Mom visited last week, and Dad was able to knock out a lot of wood finishing for me. Mostly Dad did a lot of sanding, staining, and some polyurethane. He also rescued some badly abused brushes, which are working wonderfully now.
Yesterday I broke out the HVLP sprayer I picked up a few months ago. I doubt that I’ll ever brush polyurethane onto something again. It works that well. After sanding down the ledge again and prepping it for another coat of polyurethane I broke out the sprayer. I figured we needed as many solid coats of polyurethane on the ledge as possible. It’s a high-traffic area, so the more coats, the better.
While I was at it, I did a lot of the trim that Dad stained. The sprayer makes very quick work of this stuff. So does stringing a nylon rope across the garage and stapling the trim to it.

Hi Bryan,
Do you have any, or know where to get any, plans for some decent garden furniture? I took a look at our local garden centre, and they don’t seem to be too complicated, but they still cost an arm and a leg! Plus they don’t have exactly what I would like….
I have taken a look around, but can’t find anything on the web…
Didn’t you start a woodworking site somewhere for things like this?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Andrew – if you happen to find anything, let me know.
Yeah, there’s a woodworking site out there, but I haven’t been very good about keeping it up. Ok. I’ve been terrible about that.
I am also in need of some outdoor furniture, and I haven’t run into plans for anything other than picnic tables or Adirondack chairs. If you do find something, please let me know!
