WalterCon Debacle!

WalterCon 2007 was officially canceled.

Weeks after I planned a vacation and bought plane tickets.

I’m told I’m not the only one.

My plane tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable. I’m going to San Francisco. My wife is going to San Francisco. We’re having a little vacation.

But since I’m not the only one who got burned by the “oh well we canceled because no one was going to show up” I’m willing to take a bet that there’ll be at least a few other people willing to drop a little money on getting a meeting room somewhere.

I’ve not done any follow-up (or initial contact yet), but by my research leads me to think we -may- be able to get a Palo Alto conference room for under $400. I’m not sure they are available or if they’re even open on weekends though.

The way I figure it, is that SF is in Be, Inc’s old back yard and there were going to be some walk-ins that didn’t want to register and pay for hotel rooms they didn’t need since they live in the area.

That said, if anyone is still interested in having a little Haiku related shin-dig on Saturday August 11th in the Bay area, contact me. Let me know. Leave a comment, call my phone, etc. I am willing to make some phone calls, share info with darkwyrm, and see if we can’t re-instate a WalterCon-LIKE event.

This is crap. My employer was even willing to pay registration for me to go.
