Haiku OpenJDK Port
This has been a long time coming, and it’s finally a reality. We have a page and a mailing list!
We’re the first port of the OpenJDK to a new platform since the inception of the OpenJDK porters group. We’re also the first official OpenJDK project to come out of the porters group. We’re breaking some new ground, setting the tone for the OpenJDK project when it comes to collaboration with other OSS projects, and getting a lot of good press (more than just haiku-os.org and osnews.com) for both OpenJDK and Haiku.
Right now things are in a sort of holding pattern. The OpenJDK project page and mailing list should be up in the next day. The mercurial repository is going to take a bit longer. OpenJDK still doesn’t have quite -all- of their ducks in a row there. They’re making a lot of progress, though.
We’re in a unique position right now. We’re the first platform port under OpenJDK. The Community Innovation Awards program has been created, and there’s a building momentum behind Haiku.
If nothing else, we’ve got a great opportunity to deliver a great JDK to an amazing OS. If that isn’t enough, we’re in a position to apply for funding through the Community Innovation Awards. And to top if off, Haiku and OpenJDK are getting good press.
As part of all these changes, I’m going to try to refrain from posting anything regarding the Haiku Java Team, the Haiku OpenJDK port, and what not to this blog. Any future communication to the team, status updates to the world, or other information that comes from me as a representative of Haiku or the OpenJDK Haiku Port Project, can now be found on my Haiku blog. If you’re an agent of the press (Thom…) it would be a good idea to subscribe to that blog if you’re interested in news regarding the Haiku Java Team, or the OpenJDK Haiku Port Project.

So Bryan, are you posting to both here and your Haiku-OS based blog or are you going to continue to do this blog only or will you settle in on one or the other or will you do Java on Haiku stuff on the Haiku-OS blog and the cool “this is how my house kept me busy today” stuff on this blog? Wow, that is one heck of a sentence and I think I actaully asked the same question a couple of times in there… Heh!

Hi Brian,
why not adding the mailing list link to haiku-os.org where all the other mailing list are.
Keep up the good work!

This blog is mine, it will always be mine.
Things related to the Java Team, and the OpenJDK project will be posted to my blog on haiku-os.org.
Expect work rants, general junk, and what not to continue here.
