It’s Tuesday Morning!
I’m sitting at my desk, having a few patches to commit upstream to a couple of open source projects I’m making use of with my current assignment…
And I can’t help but think the week is already half gone.
Last night I got home from work, Kylene and I went to the gym, we came back, and then I (of course) went to work on those nice garage cabinets.
I routed sixteen dovetail joints for the boxes in less than forty-five minutes. Then it was on to the hand-holds.
For the box ends I drilled out two 1.5″ holes on the drill press, then used a jig saw to remove most of the wood between them. I used a pattern bit in the router to cut the rest out. Once I had one side done, I used it as a template for the rest. The front of the boxes has a 1″ recess in the middle so you can grab hold of the box while it’s fully in the cabinet. I rough-cut this with a jig-saw, then cleaned it up with a sanding drum in the drill press. Cheaper than a spindle sander, and just as effective.
Once I had a pattern I liked, I used the pattern bit in the router again, and duplicated the recess on all the box fronts. I used the jig-saw to remove most of the wood before I actually routed. Rough sawing first really cuts down on the sawdust made by the router.
By 11:00, I had all the boxes dry fit, and two of them glued up. I should be able to glue up the last three tonight.
Anyway, I’d better get back to those fixes for ant-jnlp-war and FreeHost3270.
