Chest of Drawers: Racing Baby!

This is going to be a massive photo update.

The last time I think I wrote about this project, I had nearly all of the drawer boxes done.

I’ve completed the drawer boxes. I also finished making the drawer fronts last night. I finished up a final dry-fit around midnight and then stayed up until about 2:00 AM this morning sanding. Random orbit at 240 grit, final by-hand with 320 grit. The wood is smoother than a newborns scalp.

This morning I got up around 9:15, got out to the garage at 10:00, pre-stain treated the wood, then stained it with “Early American”. This is the same stain I used on Elin’s Rocking Chair, but it looks different this time around. The wood has been sanded smoother, and the pre-stain treater helps seal up things. The base wood picked up just a bit of tint, while the grain now really pops. This was exactly the look I was going for.

I’ll be able to start spraying acrylic finish tonight. Why acrylic? It’s almost as hard as polyurethane, dries faster, is non-toxic, water tight, dries faster, looks great, dries faster, sands down just as well as polyurethane, dries faster…

See a trend? I’m racing my daughter.
