Happy Belated New Year.
It’s a Sunday afternoon. I’ve spent most of the day (since noon) feeding, changing, trying to calm down Elizabeth. She’s been pretty demanding today.
The last week has been crazy. My folks were in town, and Dad helped me put together a platform for the laundry closet. Due to the dimensions and functional requirements of the front-loading washing machine I bought Kylene for Christmas, we needed to swap the location of the washer & dryer in the closet. This was a great idea, until we realized that the dryer exhaust vent is in the floor, and the washing machine needed to go directly overtop it. We made an 8″ high platform of 2×4′s and 3/4″ plywood sheathing. I primed the plywood, I’m going to make a primed front for it in the next few days, so we don’t see the 2×4 frame underneath. All in all, it was a good idea — we don’t have to bend over as far to load the washer or dryer!
Last night Kylene let me spend some time in the garage. I un-boxed my new Christmas gift from her — A Mortising Machine from Harbor Freight. I spent a few hours making a cabinet on casters to hold it (and for some more storage) out of the left-over 3/4″ sheathing. I need to make the face frame and door yet, then I’ll make a coping sled for the router table.
I picked up a 4′x8′ sheet of 1/4″ oak plywood, and 16 board feet of oak yesterday to start working on cabinet doors as the daughter and wife allow. :-)
