Elin’s Toy Box

In 2007, I made my first piece of ‘real’ furniture.

A poplar toy box. It’s solid poplar (except for the plywood bottom), doweled, glued, and screwed together. This project taught me to cut dadoes with a router, make jigs to do repeat processes, and introduced me to poly acrylic finish — a personal favorite for durable furniture.

The box was finished with three coats of primer, two coats of white milk paint, and three coats of poly acrylic.
